Construction Workforce Readiness Program
Each class is limited to 10 students. Pre-enrollment and registration is required. NECEC Construction Workforce Readiness Program From Classroom to Career The NECEC Construction Workforce Readiness Program is our flagship, 150-hour career-development program created to prepare individuals for meaningful entry-level employment and long-term advancement in the construction industry. Through a combination of hands-on learning, classroom instruction, workplace safety, construction fundamentals, and code-based education, students develop the practical skills, confidence, and professional habits employers expect from tomorrow’s workforce. Graduates leave with a stronger foundation for pursuing employment, apprenticeship opportunities, advanced trade education, and continued professional development within the construction industry. Tuition and Interest-Free Payment Plan The total program investment is $6,495. A nonrefundable registration and enrollment deposit of $2,995 is required to reserve a student’s place in the program. MA Plumbing & Fuel Gas Tier 1
The Tier One Plumbing & Gas Fitting Program provides 110 hours of foundational education designed for individuals beginning their journey toward professional licensure in Massachusetts. Students are introduced to the history and importance of the plumbing trade, workplace safety, licensing requirements, plumbing codes, tools, materials, valves, joining methods, blueprint reading, and essential trade mathematics. Course topics include: • OSHA 10 construction safety training • Massachusetts licensing, education, and apprenticeship requirements • Copper, steel, cast iron, plastic, PEX, and other piping systems • Soldering, brazing, threading, pressing, flaring, and mechanical joining methods • Plumbing valves, devices, fixtures, and controls • Residential blueprint reading and construction drawings • Trade mathematics, measurements, fitting allowances, and pipe offsets • Key definitions from the Massachusetts Plumbing and Gas Codes This comprehensive first-tier program combines code-based instruction with practical trade knowledge, helping students build the skills, confidence, and professional foundation needed to advance through the Massachusetts Plumbing and Gas Fitting Tier Program.
MA Plumbing & Fuel Gas Tier 2
The Tier Two Plumbing & Gas Fitting Program builds on the fundamentals introduced in Tier One with 110 hours of advanced code, system design, and trade instruction. Students develop a stronger understanding of drainage, sanitary waste and venting systems, plumbing traps, cleanouts, potable water distribution, gas fitting, blueprint reading, and applied trade mathematics. Course topics include: • Sanitary drainage and sewage disposal systems • Building drains, waste stacks, vent stacks, and vent terminals • Massachusetts-approved plumbing materials and installation standards • Plumbing traps, trap seals, cleanouts, joints, and connections • Massachusetts licensing, permitting, inspection, and disciplinary requirements • Potable water sources, treatment, storage, service, and distribution • Water pressure, volume, weight, and pipe-ratio calculations • Natural gas and propane characteristics, combustion, burners, and gas pressure • Gas piping materials, testing procedures, metering, regulators, and CSST requirements • Mechanical schedules and isometric pipe drawings • Key definitions from the Massachusetts Plumbing and Gas Codes This second-tier program strengthens each student’s technical knowledge and code proficiency while preparing them for increasingly complex plumbing and gas fitting work in the field.
MA Plumbing & Fuel Gas Tier 3
The Tier Three Plumbing & Gas Fitting Program advances students into more complex system design, code application, installation, testing, and safety requirements through 110 hours of specialized instruction. Students gain deeper knowledge of venting, drainage, water distribution, storm drainage, gas piping systems, appliance venting, and fixture installation while continuing to strengthen their understanding of Massachusetts plumbing and fuel gas codes. Course topics include: • Vent stacks, stack vents, wet venting, circuit venting, loop venting, bow venting, and combination waste and vent systems • Sanitary drainage design, pipe sizing, offsets, supports, and provisions for future fixtures • Potable water supply design, water-service sizing, booster systems, and backflow protection • Plumbing system testing, inspection, and jobsite safety requirements • Storm drainage systems and code-compliant installation • Gas piping design, sizing, installation, testing, purging, and appliance venting • Water closet, urinal, bathtub, shower, and anti-scald valve installation • Fixture rough-in requirements, manufacturer specifications, repair, and maintenance • Key definitions from the Massachusetts Plumbing and Fuel Gas Codes This third-tier program prepares students to confidently apply code requirements to increasingly complex plumbing and gas fitting systems while developing the technical judgment needed for professional fieldwork and continued advancement toward licensure.
MA Plumbing & Fuel Gas Tier 4
The Tier Four Plumbing & Gas Fitting Program delivers 110 hours of advanced instruction focused on complex plumbing systems, specialized fixtures, gas appliance installation, and higher-level code application. Students expand their knowledge of fuel gas systems, drainage design, hot water supply, specialty waste systems, commercial and institutional fixtures, and plumbing requirements for unique occupancies and installations. Course topics include: • Gas appliance, equipment, and accessory installation • Large gas utilization equipment and liquefied petroleum gas systems • Massachusetts plumbing and gas fitting laws, scope, and jurisdiction • Advanced drainage piping, sumps, ejectors, and backwater valves • Grease, oil, sand, and gasoline interceptors and separators • Indirect waste, hazardous waste, and boiler blow-off systems • Hot water storage, tankless systems, water heaters, and potable water disinfection • Residential, commercial, and specialty fixture installation • Hospital fixtures, manufactured homes, and construction trailers • Public and semi-public swimming pool plumbing • Vacuum drainage systems • Core principles and definitions from the Massachusetts Plumbing and Fuel Gas Codes This fourth-tier program prepares students to work with more sophisticated plumbing and gas systems while strengthening the code knowledge, technical judgment, and professional skills needed for advanced field responsibilities and continued progress toward licensure.
MA Plumbing & Fuel Gas Tier 5
The Tier Five Plumbing & Gas Fitting Program is the final stage of the Massachusetts tier education pathway, providing 110 hours of comprehensive code review, exam preparation, trade mathematics, and business instruction. Students consolidate the knowledge gained throughout Tiers One through Four while preparing for the responsibilities of licensure, code compliance, and professional business ownership. Course topics include: • Comprehensive review of Massachusetts Plumbing Code requirements • Detailed review of NFPA 54, NFPA 58, and Massachusetts Fuel Gas Code provisions • Large gas utilization equipment and applicable state amendments • Review of plumbing-related mathematics from all five tiers • Interpretation of plumbing code figures, diagrams, and installation details • Multiple-choice practice examinations and test-preparation exercises • Business structures, licensing requirements, and service models • Start-up costs, budgeting, insurance, payroll, taxes, and operating expenses • Accounting fundamentals and financial planning • Development of a professional business plan This final-tier program helps students strengthen their technical knowledge, prepare for licensing examinations, and understand the financial and operational responsibilities involved in running a successful plumbing and gas fitting business.
Massachusetts Construction Supervisor’s License (CSL Prep)
Massachusetts CSL Prep Course Prepare for the Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License examination with NECEC’s instructor-led CSL Prep Course. This six-week program is designed for construction professionals seeking a Restricted or Unrestricted CSL. Students receive practical instruction from experienced building professionals, with a focus on code navigation, exam preparation, construction safety, and real-world supervisory responsibilities. The program includes: • In-person classroom instruction • Required code books and professionally installed tabs • Massachusetts Building Code review • IBC and IRC exam preparation • Permits, inspections, egress, fire safety, and structural concepts • Practice questions and test-taking strategies • Guidance on eligibility, documentation, and exam registration Classes are held at 149 Congress Street in Lowell, Massachusetts, in a small-group learning environment. NEWWA Backflow Prevention Device Tester/Inspectors Training Course
NECEC in association with the New England Water Works Association (NEWWA) offers the Backflow Prevention Device Tester/Inspectors Training Course. This 32-40 hour certification program includes hands-on testing and field simulation, backflow device identification and troubleshooting, cross-connection control principles, and Massachusetts compliance requirements. Designed for licensed plumbers, apprentices, mechanical contractors, and facility maintenance personnel.
OSHA 10 Construction Course
OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Program Build a strong foundation in jobsite safety with NECEC’s OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Program. Designed for entry-level construction workers, apprentices, students, and individuals preparing to enter the skilled trades, this program introduces the essential safety practices needed to recognize hazards, prevent injuries, and work responsibly on construction sites.
